Surely there has to be some legalities with closing a game and taking away peoples 'virtual furni' they've spent thousands on?

Nope, well I highly doubt it anyway. I'm guessing the way they've set it up all their purchases are "donations".

Most likely something in the T&Cs that state that any virtual property/materials are 'owned' by Sulake and people have the right to 'play with them' obviously more legal jargon than that but I guess that'd be the basis of it.
Sad really, how little protection consumers have after filling the pockets of corporations for years.
Looking on the clubpenguin link provided by OP it would seem CP are offering to give refunds for CP membership which is nice.

I doubt they'll close, they have consistent support and whatnot from fansites, etc. Not to mention, Habbo may be dying but they still have loyalty from their users whereas retros lack that.

Fansites doesn't really support Habbo, they are just there, if Habbo dies they die. Simple as that.

Most the people who still play habbo now and actually generate Sulake money are people who played years ago and are too rich to quick without feeling bad about quitting because of all the time spent getting wealth on habbo..

I beg to differ, Habbo is still a VERY large community, with all of the 10+ hotels they have.

I've read their Habbo's whole T&C and that is pretty much how it goes.

Rather Habbo than those script kiddies acting as developers on their shitty retro.

So irrelevant but whatever. There's like 13 year olds who make retro's, let them have their fun!
If Habbo brought back a lot of the old things such as casino's, and calmed down their ban filters, maybe more people would play though.

Most of the newcomers to Habbo, only plays retros because they can have free HC and nearly unlimited values, so no, thats not really gonna change a thing by putting back dicemasters. Maybe for some of the old players like me, but not really for the new ones.

I understand where you're coming from, people come in crowds though. How I see it would be casino's make an economy, they're the only people in a game who give a damn about values. I know a range of people who would start playing Habbo again if you could gamble without getting banned. Since people follow that they'd be really no need for an economy on a retro, yeah people love to get free HC and credits but other than hanging out with your friends and creating your odd snog room, events and rares wouldn't really matter since there's no economy. It's like banning casino's on a retro and saying no one would care. ANYWAY, coming from the topic. IMO they won't close, the community is too large.

Even though Habbo is expensive it was still fun cuz you actually had to work hard to earn some stuff, which made it waaaay more fun.

And basically wasn't owned by a bunch of noobs, that would close the hotel within a month.

Habbo closing could just potentially make all the users go onto retros and revive them entirely. Unless it's short-lived. That'd be funny to see. I know foreign retros, mostly the brazilian/spanish region won't suffer at all since they get more daily users than Habbo already. Habbo's probably got a few years left easily, and small retros will die before Habbo ever does.

they're going to close one day, they all do sadly, and when they do I'm going to eat popcorn and read the article.

Won't happen for another 5 years minimum. Habbo Brazil imo is their main source of income, with over 13k+ in online users.

Honestly, I hope it doesn't. The game is so nostalgic for me. I remember most weekends as a 12 year old saving my pocket money to buy credits LOL. Trying to find 'jobs' in people's rooms. Scamming tubmasters and the like from people

The game is now sadly ruined, but it was once great and indoubtedly brought the vast majority of this community together as a whole. It's also literally brought people together, I'd probably never have been in contact with @Donkey and would definitely have never met up with him at Leeds Fest. It's also how I got interested in development along with Piczo

But of course you're going to get the cool kids (a few are in this thread actually) that are all like "omg lol no Fuck habbo let's hope it closes!!!!"

I still play it often on Habboon lmao to troll people. Such fun annoying those kids

I hope it never dies. If wasn't for habbo this community would never exist.

Due to habbo I've met @Markshall and @RastaLulz

Goin back in memories, I started off small editing severs then brought my own out and got better by learning as I coded servers, eventually I brought my own out. I even helped @Sojobo and @Meth0d and hebbo etc bring the new mod tool into retros. Which was a massive thing back in the day

I remember when I had my site donkjam.com that sulake visited my site every week cause I revealed bugs and new shit they had so they kept an eye on me which I felt was pretty funny and at the time was amazing that I was being watched

I remember being 15, having school at 9am and being on computer til like 7am with goldenshox(james) and superkid(alex) we even almost had chess etc the old games working. Almost had snowstorm 90% coded. These were never released. Just private between us.

Then Aaron @Sojobo got fined etc so I myself stopped making stuff (still done private shit) but didn't wanna continue incase they went onto others
