Gold is a good material, however it breaks very fast and therefore is more or less useless if you use it for tools to do much work. Other than that I like diamonds mmhmmhmhmmhmmh.

For those who do not understand the "Budder" reference, it is a term used by SkyDoesMinecraft (A famous Minecraft Youtuber). At least, that was where I learned it from.

Iron, easy to find, fast and is almost as good as diamond (In durability)
Actually, diamond tools have over 6x the durability of iron... (251, 1562)
Once you have fortune 3, you end up with enough diamond tools to last you for.....a very long time, you basically don't need to use iron tools.

To me it's coal. It lasts longer than wood in the furnace, and therefore is resource saving when you're smelting iron. Without smelting iron, you cannot make an iron pick(unless you find iron in a cave/mine). Without an iron pick, you cannot get diamonds/gold/redstone.
