Hi,

Does anyone have experience with FPS drops and high CPU (usually on certain games)?

Trying to run Fortnite. Warzone is the same, but CSGO isn't too bad.

Specs:
Processor - Intel® Core™ i3-9100F Processor
Quad-core
3.7 GHz / 4.4 GHz
8 MB cache
RAM 8 GB DDR4 (2400 MHz)
Graphics card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650
- 4 GB GDDR5
Storage - 1 TB HDD (7200 rpm)
- 256 GB SSD

Granted, probably isn't the best, but I wasn't really aware with it being my first as I thought I can always upgrade in the future.

What graphics settings are you using (in-game)? Does it get better if you set them to low? Those specs seem relatively low-end (especially the CPU), so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the cause.

On Fortnite, I'm using low/off.

Just reset the settings in-game (which is epic), CPU has gone down a bit and memory is still fairly high. I think this will require a lot of playing around with... D:

Those specs are quite limiting, so it's kind of difficult to suggest improvements without changing the core components. The only thing I could suggest is checking if you're on the latest drivers? It may help a little, albeit it not a great deal though.

See here for drivers (alternatively, if you have GeForce Experience, check in there):

Thanks, I'll give it a go.

I have also been told to make sure Fortnite is on the SSD. Thoughts?!

Does anyone suggest changing any settings in NVIDIA? And if so, what and why?

I have heard a lot of things, but I'm not too sure what is best, tbh.

I highly suggest NOT changing settings in nvidia's control panel unless you're running a relatively unoptimized (old) game, or a "small" game that might not have official recognition by nvidia and you know what you're changing. Not saying you'd hurt something, just that you might lose FPS or make the game look worse with no benefit. nvidia updates their drivers regularly, and with these they add new optimizations for each card and each game, that help them run better and this data is collected over time from their drivers. newer cards run better after a little updating here and there, so I highly recommend instead of tweaking nvidia settings for possible FPS boosts, update your drivers frequently, keep background tasks to a minimum (game boosters usually just close everything running in the background, so learn how to see and turn off unnecessary running services and turn off programs autoloading with your system), and if you're still not getting 60fps research game tweaks, you should be able to rock medium settings with your new system on everything(ish).
