I have no experience with PHP/jQuery and need some guidance for making a SECURE, easy usage login/logout session

You've not set it up properly. It works fine. The code you have there is exactly the same as on the demo:

The site says AJAX error because of my SSL certificate. The website is set to https:// rather than http:// so all XHR requests will be broken.

Other than that, it works.
