The sexualization of females in the music industry mainly targets male audience, having a slim girl at the prime of her sexual thrive on a poster will sell more than having a fat guy half naked (horrible example on the second part, but you get the point).

It's all one giant commercial stunt, it's practically the same for when male singers go through the trouble of huge photo shoots just to produce an amazing poster/cover just to get the kind gender to buy.

In my opinion, there's no transparency in the music industry, the audience doesn't buy anymore based on the quality of the product, but rather on whether the one on the photos/video clip is hot, whether it'd be female or male. Shame..
