If i use a large image as a background cover, should I use a jquery preloader or not?

Remember to optimize the image (set it as a .jpg) and use background-size:cover; etc in your CSS just to make it feel a little better.

In answer to your question, it shouldn't affect your page that much but to keep things smooth I'd use one - no harm in doing so.
