What do I use to edit a Emulator?

So basically what I need to know is how to edit the language the language of my EMULATOR is I believe german so I need to translate some of the texts so I can under stand what it is saying so I need to know what editing software I need to use my friend gave me the download to it but I recently erased my computer and forgot what the name of it was called I think is was called "Microsoft ....." I dont know lol so can someone give me the name and/or the download to it to make my life more easier. Thanks! (;
