I used xampp 1.7.4 but that gives a lot of problems..
I switched to xampp 1.7.2.

Basically, you will need to enable magic quotes in your PHP, now I've not had ago at this, so I recommend you reading something like

You must be registered for see links

.

Could i suggest you to update your web-build? You can use an automated web-build updater too. Here it is:

You must be registered for see links

. That would might help you with the images problem if the magic quotes doesn't resolve that when it's been turned off.
