Watch the Minecraft 1.5 Redstone Update in song form:

+ Added Redstone Comparator (used in Redstone logic)
+ Added Hopper (collects items and moves them to containers)
+ Added Dropper (similar to Dispensers, but always drops the item)
+ Added Activator Rail (activates TNT Minecarts)
+ Added Daylight Sensor
+ Added Trapped Chest
+ Added Weighed Pressure Plate
+ Added Block of Redstone
+ Added Nether Brick (item)
+ Added Nether Quartz and ore
+ Added Block of Quartz, with half blocks and chiseled variants
+ New command: /scoreboard
+ New command: /effect
+ Containers and mobs can have custom names
* Inventory management has been changed, for example you can drag-place items over slots
* Texture packs now have separate images for each block and item, and can have animations
* Nether Quartz Ore now spawns in the Nether
* Smooth lighting now has three settings (none, minimal, maximum)
* More detailed death messages
* Some hostile mobs now are harder in Hard difficulty
* Many, many, bug fixes
- Removed Herobrine

I still don't understand the jump from 1.4.7 to 1.5. Was there a big change? Besides a little UI Change.

The new updates, for example the scoreboard etc, are pretty awesome. Btw, PLEASE change the font you are using to quote the updates, it gives me a headache.

removal of herobrine: mind=IN YOUR FACE HEROBRINE

Fixed, and I like the new commands, but what does /effect do?
/effect <player> <potion effect> [seconds] [amplifier] will give you the specified potion effect for the specified length of time. eg. /effect Dinglydell 1 1000 2 Will give me speed 3 for 1000 seconds.

It's a really good update, especially if you play vanilla survival. I also like the new way crafting works, as I can normally craft my armor a lot faster. It also makes it easier to make a lot of other stuff in decent amount of time, as oppose to the old way. I suppose that it's also nice for some players who don't use OptiFine or MCPatcher, as they don't need that for custom texture packs.

My only complaint would be that it seems to have impacted my FPS? Oh well, I'm sure the next stable OptiFine update will address that.

Honestly think this is the first visible proof of the slow downfall of Minecraft.
They're getting into selling servers...
They haven't finished numerous updates, copying from people's mods instead of coming up with real ideas, They haven't addressed the massive performance issues regarding how shitty their code is, and how bad they manage it.

It's on its way to opensource soon.
