Alright, first off i'm doing this tutorial on a VPS. Home-ran retros are pathetic so here it goes.
First, go into your server control panel/manager. Go down to MySQL>Connectors>OBDC>DRIVERS click enable.
Reboot your VPS and it should work.
If it does not then there is a problem with your emulator settings or your client.php.
Check the settings in your emulator to make sure you got the right database/password etc.
In your client make sure the vps ip is in the places where it says localhost or 127.0.0.1
