At the beginning of last year I started this project, and dedicated roughly two months to it. It's now time to pick it back up, and get the ball rolling. There's still work to be done, but I wanted to get the communities feedback; especially before launching it.

With that being said, please take a look at the beta site(s), and let me know if you encounter any bugs, or if there's any features/changes you'd like to see.

Sites:
-
-

Q&A:
- Will servers/users on FindRetros be migrated? Yes, I've already written the script.
- Will there be legacy support? Yes, old voting scripts will continue to work, and redirects will be added.

Known bugs/issues:
- It'll copy and paste the IP if you click on the rank.
- When searching for servers, if no results are found, the sidebar will be hidden.
- No option to delete a banner (only override).
- Sometimes the footer doesn't always adjust correctly when window size changes.
- There is no cross site authentication; you must authenticate on both sites.
- Responsive isn't completely fleshed out.
- Center the captcha on the voting page.
- Make it more clear as to what the maximum banner dimensions are.
- If on a game specific site, automatically select game when adding a server.
- Consider not requiring "http(s)://" for website field.
- If add a server for a game that has a different domain, you won't be redirected to the correct destination.
- Discrepancy between global server rank, and game specific server rank.
- Fix issue where global ranks are being incorrectly calculated.
- Full HTTPS support.

Planned features:
- Forgot password.
- Notify user if their server is soft deleted.

Possible features down the road:
- Suggested tags based on things like title, description, etc.
- Add the ability to report servers.
- Add ability to allow punishments to expire, as opposed to always being permanent.
- Add the ability to view the source of a servers votes for staff.

The new designs are very modern, looks really nice.
Edit/Manage servers page looks brilliant, its layed out very well. (Love that you can delete your pages now)
The searching and preferences and tags are great thing, good job.

Edit: forgot to mention you get a 404 error after creating a Habbo page on ServersGG.
not sure if this is due to the session not carrying over cross domain, or the page genuinely doesn't exist.

  • The ServersGG home could have a better jumbotron image that shows the games more visible, maybe remove the blue overlay.
  • The capatcha box needs centering on register page and voting pages.
  • Banner sizes need to be explained when creating a server page.
  • Maybe, when you type your server description it lists suggested tags to add eg. if i put UPDATED, R63B, ROLEPLAY in the desc, it would suggest them as tags?
  • You could possibly add an option to report pages there instead of using these forums, then a moderator could take action on the page. The page owner could get a notification like "You page has been temporarily suspended until you change the description/link/banner. "

I looked at it on mobile initially and didn't think it looked all that great. Looks far nicer on desktop however, really nice job! I like the 'Preferences' options, much better than the current FindRetros website.

Otherwise, I agree with @Hender's remarks fully, couldn't find any other faults.

(Edit)

1. Maybe remove the "empty" option at the top of this dropdown:
cWu65Zu.png

2. It may be better to generate the slug from a separate "name" field (or perhaps re-word it from 'slug').

3. When entering the website, entering "peakrp.com" is invalid. Perhaps this could be automatically converted on the server, although this is again, minor.

4. I feel like the new banner size is too small for Habbo, people already have banners and the new one can't even fit on a full-height Habbo. I understand Minecraft servers have a different standard for banners, but would it not be possible to have a different size for Habbo?

I do like the layout and the colors of it, but as @LukeOx said the banners look a bit small as can be seen in screenshot. And I agree with the above comments made by Hender and Luke.

Ouuh daddy. It looks nice. As @LukeOx said, remove the blank in the dropdown, also the Minecraft one. Who's going to put a MC server on a habbo retros list? I'd suggest to make the "Habbo Hotel" the default category/option.

They're two separate projects.
is just Habbo Hotel, its a new Find Retros it will only display Habbo Hotels.
is a separate project that will host more servers, such as Minecraft, Garrys Mod, Team Fortress, PC games etc.

Yes, I understand that, I guess the image is misleading then. On FindRetros, the default category should be Habbo Hotel and not even have a dropdown.

You mean on the page creation for FindRetros, I understand,
I don't think the dropbox should be removed, just be the default selection if you're using FindRetros.
But you know, its not that important so w/e.

This is a merged system, like brother/sister so you cant just separate them 100%, FindRetros just displaying Hotels is good enough.

Having it merged with Servers.gg is a good thing, brings more traffic and possibly forum users.

As for moderation, the following things could be improved:
- Currently we have a suspension/pardon/close system. It would be better if a user could just be banned for an x period of time or permanent, without opening an appeal. They could appeal their ban, but this would be seperate from the ban itself. This way we could just close an appeal, and ban/unban based on the user.
- Fraud checking. Please.

Thanks for all the feedback guys, I appreciate it.

I can't seem to reproduce this. Just to be clear, do you mean when you click "Add Server" on ?
The capatcha box needs centering on register page and voting pages.
Will add this to the bug list.
Banner sizes need to be explained when creating a server page.
Great point, will add this to the planned features list.
Maybe, when you type your server description it lists suggested tags to add eg. if i put UPDATED, R63B, ROLEPLAY in the desc, it would suggest them as tags?
Interesting thought, will possibly consider this down the road, but wouldn't expect this anytime due to the potential complexity.
You could possibly add an option to report pages there instead of using these forums, then a moderator could take action on the page. The page owner could get a notification like "You page has been temporarily suspended until you change the description/link/banner. "
This is something that I'd definitely want added, as it'd simplify the moderation process.

Yup, as noted responsive it hasn't been fine tuned, beyond what Bootstrap offers out of the box.
1. Maybe remove the "empty" option at the top of this dropdown:
The reason there is an empty option is because if you are on the main site, it won't know what game you're attempting to create a server listing for.
2. It may be better to generate the slug from a separate "name" field (or perhaps re-word it from 'slug').
Could you elaborate on this point? I feel like the intention of the field is pretty clear.
3. When entering the website, entering "peakrp.com" is invalid. Perhaps this could be automatically converted on the server, although this is again, minor.
Interesting point, will take this into consideration.
4. I feel like the new banner size is too small for Habbo, people already have banners and the new one can't even fit on a full-height Habbo. I understand Minecraft servers have a different standard for banners, but would it not be possible to have a different size for Habbo?
This is defiantly something I considered, but I feel like the current banners on FindRetros take up way too much screen real estate.
Yes, I understand that, I guess the image is misleading then. On FindRetros, the default category should be Habbo Hotel and not even have a dropdown.
Good point, didn't consider that. If you use the "Add Your Server" link on the actual server list for a specific game, it will automatically select the game for you. But if a site is dedicated to a specific game (i.e. not the main site), it definitely should automatically select the game when adding your server.
Currently we have a suspension/pardon/close system. It would be better if a user could just be banned for an x period of time or permanent, without opening an appeal. They could appeal their ban, but this would be seperate from the ban itself. This way we could just close an appeal, and ban/unban based on the user.

Both sound like nice quality of life enhancements, and something that I'd love to tackle down the road. Will keep these in mind after initial launch.[/QUOTE]

Yes @bigdawg it was when I clicked add server (to submit my page). It was on beta.servers.gg though, Not beta.findretros.com.

May have just been a one time thing.

Nice find. The issue occurs because it assumes that the game doesn't have a custom domain.

Will the voting API still be the same for retros (redirect to FR, redirect to website)? I don't see any mention of it on the new site/in the listing settings.

- People should be able to delete their own pages.
- Moderators should be able to suspend/delete pages which don't link to an active server anymore.

People should be able to delete their own pages.
Already a feature.

They get soft deleted for seven days, and if you reactivate it within that time period, it will be permanently deleted. This is a security precaution, since we all know these kids can't keep their passwords a secret. ;)

Great stuff mr. Joshua. How about the second suggestion?

I'm not sure how useful this feature may be, but i've heard it mention before. I've heard someone wanting a "managers account" where they can allow use access (seperate of thier account) to edit banners, titles, descriptions etc. So that if it were to get "hijacked" the actual listing owner can easily regain control.
