Im getting "Connection for controluser as defined in your configuration failed." as I try to log in as root in phpmyadmin, I've changed

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['controluser'] = 'pma';

to

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['controluser'] = 'root';

and it doesnt to jack didly shit, and at the top says "#1130 Cannot log in to the MySQL server". Anyone know what the hell's wrong?
Running newest version of XAMPP, here's my config:

Try changing it to

$cfg['Servers'][$i]['controluser'] = ‘$root’;

Then restart both Apache and MySQL.

Are you trying to make it read is as a variable? and I'll do that now, sec.
