Connecting xbox slim to PC

Hey.

I have a question. I think I know what Im doing but I want some other options.

I have 1 HDMI port (in use with my monitor) and 1 VGA and 1 DVI D input.

I was thinking of getting a HDMI splitter and use it for the xbox and monitor. Good idea?

Theoretically, you shouldn't have any problems doing this, in fact it's common practice amongst gamers these days. I would recommend getting a powered splitter, the ones that don't have an external power source often have high display lag and mess with the color.

you could just cut one hdmi cable and splice the wires with another one

I bought a HDMI splitter (non powered) and when I hook it up to my monitor I don`t know what I do next?
I tried the settings on the monitor and nothing...

Do I need switch settings on the computer?

no hdmi splitters are lies just like hdmi to vga cables
