It's about time, I bet you this will come with Windows 12 this year though.

Surprised they open-sourced it, would be tempted to ditch my linux machines if was actually viable for full dev work.

Used it when it came out, and it sucked!
How did it suck?
I mean if you use GUI based tools such as Electron and Cypress I'd understand, because that's a hassle to setup.
Both VSCode and IntelliJ IDEA have WSL integration.
Docker and Kubernetes ain't a problem either.

Dumbest thing I've read in awhile
People keep saying it's dumb, but doesn't elaborate on why.
Using the current Windows terminal is even more stupid.
Either people are retarded and doesn't know how to use WSL, or they'd just rather fuck around with CLI tools in a Windows terminal that barely works, lmfao.
Good luck with your frozen and stuck terminals ??

Or use the real thing and not a bad "subsystem" that takes 30+ minutes to compile gcc.

I like the look of this, Windows is finally moving into the 21st century

Isn't WSL an emulation layer? It doesn't match up to proper Linux imo (it's good... but not that good).. Also, have you tried Powershell? Much better than cmd and even matches up to bash in some aspects

When it first came out it sucked, i remember tcp ports were broken but everything is fixed now.

True, it's really useful otherwise though

The new Windows Terminal looks appealing but its needs splitting.

Once they add splitting, goodbye

There wont be a Windows 12 :(
Personally I think MIcrosoft will always be playing Catch up, they keep promising features and then removing them from preview builds without warning. Assholes are teasing us over and over

On a more serious note, I think this is a great step in the right direction. The terminal is one of the main things that keeps me on macOS (and the ability to use "*nix commands"). This combined with WSL, I think it is really interesting. For instance, I can run a bash script of mine through the Ubuntu Terminal, which works with Docker (that I think I installed via Windows). I look forward to continued integration.
