Names don't make something, the product does. Does "McDonald's" or "Wendy's" sound like a good name for a restaurant? No, but their product has gotten them to where they are, not their name.
Agreed, Just saying that ReserveBox wouldn't seem as a correct forum name.

Reversebox is a good name imo. I know what Dwight is trying to do, he's saying we're too habbo based at the moment and is wanting to experiment with a wider option which would include a wider audience that the forum will be aimed for. It won't be specifically habbo related as much however, the same content with habbo will still be there. The only difference this change will make is that it should bring a wider audience to the forums and bring popularity.

I agree with this change and I think it could benefit the future of the forums. On the other hand, I'm guessing the people that disagree is more for habbo and only use the forums for their habbo needs.

How does changing the name ruin the community? It's the same forum, just a different domain with more content.
Because DevBest is a very popular forum, and changing the name may decrease the amount of users signing up.
Think about it... If Facebook changed their domain and URL to something like "SocialSite" they would lose a shit load of users, without a doubt.

I honestly doubt they'd lose any users. People don't go to Facebook because it's called Facebook, they go there because the product is solid and it allows them to do what they want on a social aspect. If everyone was redirected from "facebook.com" to "socialsite.com", I doubt many would even care, and use the site as they normally would. Nothing would be changed, but the name.

I think the habbo section at the moment is very low and it needs to stay that way, however, ReserveBox still isn't a good name for a forum of this type with VERY different section types (Example; Life and recruitment).

The thing is their content would still be there. Lets say you visit here for Habbo (as an example) the Habbo Hotel sections would still be here, they'd just be slowly pushed down and the forum would progress as usual, until one day Habbo dies out.

I see where you're coming from but I still disagree.
Facebook is a well known name, with a well known domain (obviously), and so is DevBest in a small portion. Changing this could change the amount of users.

And regarding the name, others might not like the changes and may either end up leaving the forum anyway, or just change their mind on registering.

-EDIT-

Again, good point.
But I think losing a "small" amount of users would impact on DevBest a lot. DevBest doesn't exactly hold 100's of users online at once.

Overall I just don't like the idea.

So you're telling me if you woke up tomorrow morning and Facebook had a different domain name, but everything was the same, you'd stop using Facebook? That sounds so absurd.

The name doesn't really matter, how does Subway tell you it sells food? It doesn't if someone heard the name Subway they'd instantly think 'Wtf trains?' but until the company is well known then people get used to it and it can give a boost to a company. As for here, people from DevBest will already know the domain 'ReserveBox' and it'll act in a similar way.

Edit: Zymf, if anything its going to increase the users, as it would be focusing on the habbo audience, maybe other MMORPG's and also the outer audience where it can be used for general discussion.

If this goes on, you need to first make the forums and the actual site promising so new users could be welcomed and would join.

The habbo section will be pushed away till it dies out (Yes..) However, it is the correct choice. Other habbo related forums now consist on Habbo most of the time and that needs to be stopped on this forum.

Which will hopefully be in the very near future.

Anyways, why are people so hit up over change? It's like when DevBest got the flexile theme, everyone hated it too start off with and eventually people got used to it.

I guess if you were to add a wordpress site and have news reporters that do them regularly, I guess that could work out good.(If people actually look at it.) But anyway, like is saying "Reverse Box" and "Devbest" are domains and are not what get people interested in a site, it is the concept of the forum. The name is just a way to get to the site.

At the end of the day, the domain is not the problem.
DevBest would be re-directed to ReverseBox.
Users would not be lost.
I don't see what the argument is here. Something has been stated by the person who is making the changes, but either you didn't see it or you're ignoring it.

Someone goes to DevBest.com they go to the same place on a different domain.
Problem = 0

Personally no, but other's might.

It just changes the site (obviously not the contents), but the domain is known and changing to a brand new domain would make the website unknown.

How is it unknown? Anyone who knows what DevBest is and uses it would know what "ReverseBox" is. It's not like I'm going to unregister this domain and not tell anyone we are moving (or redirect them).

We could have a section on the welcoming page saying something like "DevBest has recently been changed around into ......"

This is a really good idea, I first was unhappy because of the Habbo section but now others have persuaded it needs to be brought back till the forum goes habbo-ballistic

You've given good points and I respect them, but I just don't agree with the changes, and as much as others would agree with you, others may not.

It wouldn't because the exact same users from DevBest will know about it therefore it'll be just as well known. That's basically saying when 'Force hotel' changed the 'Xen Hotel' that Xen failed because it didn't get any users..

That's nothing like that at all? That's a retro, they suck.
