The word vernal means green, as in Vermont, the Green Mountain State. In spring, of course, the land becomes green again, a very important circumstance to people who depend on agriculture for their existence. The word equinox means equal night, referring to the two times of year, spring and fall, when night and day are of equal length.
Easter is not only an important Christian day of celebration signifying rebirth and resurrection, but it is also a time for all people to celebrate the rebirth of life as the promise of warmth and vitality once again returns to the land.

Why Easter Moves Around
This Christian religious day seems to wander around the calendar with no set rules for occurrence. In fact, the date of Easter is fixed by custom in Christian churches based on two astronomical events: the date of the vernal equinox and the occurrence of a full moon. The rule for establishing the date is that Easter always falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon that occurs on or just after the vernal equinox. The vernal equinox we know familiarly as the first day of spring. Days become longer than nights, and our thoughts return to spring, growth, and the outdoors. The date of the first day of spring varies slightly, by a day or two, but generally occurs on March 21 each year. Because the full moon can occur on any of many days after the vernal equinox, the date of Easter can be as early as March 22, and as late as April 25.The word vernal means green, as in Vermont, the Green Mountain State.
