I need help with my php upload profile picture script

I have tried many scripts to upload and set a profile picture script and none have worked I would like help to make one that uploads into specific folders as I have set it up so when you register it makes a folder in 'avatars/$id' and i would like their picture to upload into their and I would like it to be placed into the database under the 'profile_picture' in the db will love who ever helps :3
