The best thing about you knowing JavaScript/jQuery and now taking on PHP is that the syntaxes are pretty damn similar. I myself am not the best in JavaScript, but I know a few things in it! What I would suggest is buying this book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/MySQL-Development-All--Reference-Dummies/dp/0470167777/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1325274619&sr=8-5 - I got this recently and I've not read the full thing but I had a flick through, it's a really good resource. Also, try out this link, or even try out PHP's website, www.php.net - I'm not the best at explaining things and I just tend to pick up things as I go along. Also, take a look at other peoples' scripts and if you see a function you're not familiar with, look it up on www.php.net and try out a few things with said function. Hopefully after a while you'll have a whole heap of PHP functions available at your own will and be able to use them when necessary. That's what I did and it's helped me quite a lot! Hope it helped.
