[HELP] VPS Hosting

I posted this earlier: Since I have purchased a VPS. I thought I knew what to do, turns out I don't. Please could someone help me with this?
I can't seem to get my emulator (Leensters edit of Bcstorm) to connect to the database on my webhost.

"I've uploaded all my files to a websever "hosting24" I've set up a MySQL database and the CMS is connected and everything but I was wondering how to connect to the data with my emulator.

I have entered all the database information "Host, Username, pass and database name" But when I open the emulator is says access denied for user "My username".

If anyone could help that would be great, thanks bradley.

EDIT: If I need to purchase a VPS in order for it to work that is fine but I need to know how to set one up."

I'm assuming your using phpmyadmin if so locate the database, then give "root" all permissions

I have done this but still says access is denied.

Remote MySQL in your cPanel. Whitelist your VPS IP address. By default the MySQL service can only be accessed locally.

I assume "whitelist" is the same as "wildcard" as that was in my Remote MySQL in my cPanel. I did this, still "access is denied". I think it may be the webhost that I am using, has anyone got a webhost that is used by habplus or fresh ect..?
