Can insect repellents hurt hamsters?

Ok so i have just been messing with insect repellent like 2 rooms away from my dwarf hamsters could it of hurt them in like 2minutes?

Yes i went in room and then picked there little houses up and they were asleep then i woke them up they walked round a little then went back to sleep.
