Cross browser compatibility is usually crafty when It come's too IE...
I'd ditch IE... Just put a little detection whilst loading the site something which is like
"Site Loading - Detected IE - Session Kill" - With Ajax

Or look further into it and ask on stackoverflow.

Just manually visit the site... Just remove the /register/step2
