[Music] Where to start?

I was looking to start making dubstep/ electronic music and need a simple, free software to start, but I have no idea where to start. Could you list some free programs and some paid ones that I could move up to?

Thank you for making this thread! I've actually been interested in this as well. I'm gonna guess someone will say FL Studio for paid. The only thing I have to do with editing music is Audacity (Free).

Yeah, I've messed with Audacity but looking for something simple to make stuff like bass drops and wubs/dubs
