How did you learn a new language the best way? I've been trying to learn french back and forth for two years using duolingo. I've watched some french series and movies but can't understand shit. However, it doesn't feel like I can learn more than the absolute basics of the language such as "how are you?", "I live in XXX", "That's a woman", "I'm eating a pizza". Any tips for taking the language learning to the next level?

Duolingo is a start, knowing someone that is bilingual helps as well.
I'm Portuguese and my girlfriend wanted to learn the language, she says duolingo is pretty good.
Having me around helps a lot though, so she can practice it outloud and get real feedback.

One tip I have for duolingo is make sure you are speaking and pronouncing the words outloud as you play.
Don't just complete the exercises and click next ;)
