You make a polling function that sends an ajax requests that queries the current online users every 30-60 seconds. I think Cosmic has it - you can look how it's done there. What CMS are you using?

What kind of voting are you talking about? Remember to enable flash when entering the client - that could be the cause of getting white screen.

Don't know the CMS. Can you enable debugging to see if you can get any error messages if possible?

There's a small jag in the edges on the top and bottom which could be fixed by extending it by a pixel or two ^^
