A multi-million dollar company can't afford the resources to push out something better than a Unity game? Interesting, I guess money isn't everything. If they have a lot more experience than myself, then why would they use an engine like Unity? Single developers tend to use Unity because it's fit for someone who doesn't have a good income to keep up employees that are experienced in certain fields. You do understand that Sulake isn't a starting up company, right? They're not a brand new company that is just now coming into the scene, they already have a reputation. By Orange Games being the parent company, that immediately grants them exposure to funds they probably never had, so it just confuses me why they'd bother using such engine where there are clearly limitations, yes you can make just about everything, but there are limitations to what they can do because of the Unity terms of service. This has nothing to do with the flexibility to push out something quickly, it has to do getting something that is quality. Limitations can remove certain things that made Habbo what it is. Everyone saw a dramatic drop in activity when casinos were removed from the hotel, more than 40% of the player count left when casinos were not allowed anymore due to the terms of service they had to follow because they decided to put Habbo under a rating of E for everyone for certain platforms, which prohibit gambling. Now imagine another change in the gameplay caused by Unity's terms of service or an extension they're using with Unity? That's another drop spike if it's something major. So like I was saying, if you can afford to get your own stuff and have the ability to not be limited to what you can do, then why not do it.

I agree with making your own engine, However that might seem very time consuming for Sulake and what they want is a ready product to be released as soon as possible without spending a lot of money on an engine most people won't bother about.
Let's not forget the fact that Sulake does not have many developers working for Habbo. It's only a few people.
So re-creating an engine would just be a waste of time when they can go with something like Unity and have a proper product to show to users.

It might not be good in your eyes or some however I think as @CosmoPeak said Sulake has lot more experience than we do with promoting their products.
They might've done big mistakes but they are still one of the best Games using Flash.
It always has been.

Understandable way to put it. As I said, they're not a startup business, they're fairly well known so maybe it'll work out.

There will always be the oldschool snobs who will do anything and everything to play an old hotel and relive their youth. It's a very niche crowd and most retros would be dead if they required a browser download to work.

Hoes mad.

Also it's not a niche, there's thousands of users who have played the hotel, there's a consistent stream of unique players weekly.

Thousands of users who have bounced*

You forgot that signing up is not equal to being a player, if you sign up and ditch it's a bonus to your bounce rate which means the content is bad. You have a consistent stream of some users, but enough to keep your pinky hard.

Hoes mad.

There's probably a ton of users (me included) who joined the hotel for the nostalgia, I wouldn't exactly play the hotel but it's cool to login now and then to see how things are getting a long and to play the old version.

That's the only reason why I register on 99% of hotels.

Yeah, it's cool enough to peak but not use. Hence high bounce rates

Nope, actual legitimate players, who have built rooms and stuff you can see for yourself. Please fuck off with your baseless blanket statements. kthnxbai xo

Just because I am bored, you have a 99% bounce rate based off of visits and daily users alone. You tried, but failed.

I hope you find better content for your retro :)

PS: Below 50% is amazing, above 70 means your website is a cesspool

I'm number 4 on Findretros and have maintained this position for like 3 months now since November.

Stay mad, hoe.

@Quackster is one of the most creative developers I've seen around this community. I would say he re-created most things Oldschool Habbo had.
His hotel is unique comparing it to others on that list which are either using Arcturus or Plus Emulator.

It doesn't matter if he is getting users or not he might be doing it because it's either his hobby or he cleans the rust of his coding skills.
Yet he manages to push updates to satisfy his users. I would say his hotel is one of the most up-to-date oldschool hotels featuring everything you would have before.
Sends you back to that era where Habbo was good for once.

I like his retro and I support whatever he does. Whatever you do @LeChris is just bunch of NodeJS Apps which are useless and badly coded yet I haven't seen you succeed in the retro community wherever you go, you get kicked out.

Because you are delusional.

you're a very negative person, why don't you stay in your lane before coming for others who have a final product to show for their skills

I don't work for the retro scene because I have a full time job as a Software Engineer in real life making big boy money. What you see are Node apps I built as a 16 year old, as a 20 year old I don't have much time for retros but I do build some things here and there for my mates who choose to engage in this scene. Sorry hon
Note: "big boy money"-maker LeChris deleted that post.
Lol, you mad af.
Nobody cares who or what you are Chris, just be a nice person who try to contribute something to this community instead of someone who talks bullshit 24/7.
You're not on par with Alex, not even a bit, believe me and do not forget the fact that hes doing that for fun ;)

I have always distanced myself from off-topic beef but this time i feel compelled.

Don't think they'll do a beta it wouldn't have taken them this long to make at least a small concept for users to come online and check out.
I think they'll directly push to the Hotel at some point and announce it.

But them choosing Unity out of all the alternatives is mind blowing. This game has been around as long as Runescape has. Jagex actually made an Engine for Runescape called RuneTek even
a scripting language RuneScript. While Habbo is still using Unity even after having this much reputation.

we don't have any plans at the moment, we'll probably wait and see what's going on closer to the time

It's best to rip as Retros have always did.

Otherwise it kills the entire Private Server purpose. If someone is gonna re-make a Habbo in HTML5 that's basically doing Habbo's job for them.
You could go make a new game if you are gonna re-make HTML5 project :)

Adobe Flash Player will never be depreciated completely some browsers like Chromium will still run it.

Another alternative I heard was Adobe Air. It's good that you are waiting to see what Habbo will do before actually making anything yourself from Scratch you don't kill the tradition ;)

I can imagine a habbo version as a .exe file without a real website, just the client

Like: Login Page -> Client

that's dumb because then they wouldn't have anywhere to post news
I mean the old news in the client could always come back with javascript callback that shows the full article directly on the client.
